Tobacco and Vapor Use Policy

Purpose 

In accordance with Louisiana Revised Statute 40:1291.23, this policy provides information about University regulations concerning tobacco and vapor use on campus. The responsibility for compliance with this policy rests with all members of the University community, including faculty, staff, students, contractors, and visitors. All members of the University community are encouraged to respectfully inform others about this policy when witnessing violations. Repeated or intentional violations of this policy may result in appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with University policy.

Prohibition of Tobacco and Vapor Products

The use of tobacco products, including but not limited to cigarettes, cigars, pipes, smokeless tobacco, and any other smoking devices, is strictly prohibited within all University buildings, facilities, and enclosed areas.

The use of vapor products, including electronic cigarettes, vape pens, e-hookahs, and other vaping devices, is also strictly prohibited within all University buildings, facilities, and enclosed areas.

The use of tobacco and vapor products is prohibited within all University-owned vehicles. This policy applies to all drivers and passengers.

Outdoor Smoking Restrictions

To maintain a healthy and smoke-free environment, smoking or using vapor products is not allowed within 25 feet of all University buildings and facilities. This restriction includes entrances, exits, and ventilation intakes of buildings.

Consideration for Non-Smokers

Users of tobacco and vapor products should be mindful and considerate of non-smokers. Users should dispose of smoking materials responsibly and refrain from smoking in crowded areas or near individuals who express discomfort with secondhand smoke.
