Nepotism Policy

Purpose
This policy outlines McNeese State University’s compliance with Louisiana ethics laws regarding nepotism.
Employment of Immediate Family Members
McNeese State University adheres to the Code of Governmental Ethics on Nepotism as outlined in Louisiana Revised Statute 42:1119. Additionally, Part Two, Chapter III, Section IX of University of Louisiana System Board Rules permits the employment of individuals from the same economic unit or immediate family when allowed by law.
Under Louisiana Revised Statute 42:1102, “immediate family” includes:
- A public servant’s children and their spouses
- Siblings and their spouses
- Parents
- Spouse
- Spouse’s parents
The University follows the definitions and interpretations provided by the Code of Governmental Ethics (Louisiana R.S. 42:1102) and the Louisiana Board of Ethics regarding economic unit, immediate family, and related terms.
However, employees who are immediate family members may not be hired or assigned in positions where:
- One has direct administrative responsibility over the other.
- One falls within the line of supervision or administrative oversight of the other.
