Fire on Campus

Your Safety Matters

If You Hear An Alarm Sound

  • Evacuate the building immediately
  • Assist those with disabilities in evacuating as you are able
  • Do not use the elevators
  • Do not re-enter the building for any reason until being told it is safe to do so by university officials

If You Smell Smoke Or See Flames

  • Activate the nearest fire alarm
  • Evacuate the building immediately
  • Assist those with disabilities in evacuating as you are able
  • Be aware there may be flames in other parts of the building as well
  • If smoke is present, keep low to the floor
  • If you are unable to safely evacuate due to smoke or flames, move to an unaffected room as far from the fire as possible and close the door
  • Attempt to seal the cracks around the door with whatever is available (clothing, tape, toilet paper, etc.)
  • Report the fire and your location via 911
