Your Safety Matters
If You Hear An Alarm Sound
- Evacuate the building immediately
- Assist those with disabilities in evacuating as you are able
- Do not use the elevators
- Do not re-enter the building for any reason until being told it is safe to do so by university officials
If You Smell Smoke Or See Flames
- Activate the nearest fire alarm
- Evacuate the building immediately
- Assist those with disabilities in evacuating as you are able
- Be aware there may be flames in other parts of the building as well
- If smoke is present, keep low to the floor
- If you are unable to safely evacuate due to smoke or flames, move to an unaffected room as far from the fire as possible and close the door
- Attempt to seal the cracks around the door with whatever is available (clothing, tape, toilet paper, etc.)
- Report the fire and your location via 911
