Dr. Michael Crawford earned a Ph.D. from the University of Arizona in European History with a focus on the period of the Renaissance and Reformation and an emphasis on Spanish history during this time period. He previously earned a BA in International Studies from the University of Washington. His book The Fight for Status and Privilege in Late Medieval and Early Modern Castile, 1465-1598 (Pennsylvania University Press, 2014) investigates noble social status and the numerous conflicts over such status and the ramifications these conflicts had for noble privilege. His current research interests address religious toleration and persecution during the sixteenth-century wars of religion in the Spanish Habsburg Netherlands.
