Professional Development Day

Professional Development Day

Sessions - When: October 5

  • Creating Culture of Care on Campus: While student mental health is a shared responsibility on campus, it is important to understand that faculty and staff do not have to be mental health professionals to extend support to students. Rather, faculty and staff play an important role in connecting students to appropriate campus resources. This presentation will review how supporting students in distress helps to cultivate a caring campus culture, while also improving student success and retention. Presenters: James Grimes and Kristin Wills, Counseling Center
  • Introducing Navigate: Come see the new EAB platform McNeese is using to bring together students, administrators, advisors, faculty, and other staff in a collaborative network to holistically support students across the college journey. Presenters: Catrina Boenig and Mária Raiford
  • Marketing and Communications Tools and Resources 101: We’re going to drill down into some of the resources that were presented during McNeese Week and provide more detailed instruction on how to best use those tools. We’ll also cover the sort of information we’d like everyone to share with us so we can help promote all the amazing things happening all over campus. Presenters: Ginny Karg, Liz Sanders, Michael Dawson and Tanya Brewster, Office of Marketing and Communication
  • My Finance Budget Query and Finance Document Viewing: Please join us for a session on how to review budgets and finance transactions in both Banner 9 AppNav and Finance Self Service. The budget review will include tips on how to distinguish if your index is budgeted by expense category or the entire fund as well as how to view images of invoices in AppXtender (BDM). Presenter: Victoria Roach, Office of Administrative Accounting
  • Property Control and Inventories: The session will cover the “What” and “Why” for Property Control and the “Do’s” and “Don’ts” for Inventories. Presenters:  Roxane Fontenot and Kimberly Godare, Office of Purchasing; Trena Stebbins, Office of Property Control
  • State Travel Basics: Please join us for a session on state travel basics. The session will include how to complete the travel request and expense report, where to start with booking a hotel, setting up a Christopherson profile for booking airfare and more. Presenter: Michelle Erickson, Office of Administrative Accounting

Ashley Bass

I am a McNeese graduate with a bachelor's degree in Family and Consumer Science and a concentration in Child and Family Studies. As a student, I competed on the rodeo team and served on the SGA board. I earned my master’s degree in 2022 from the University of South Dakota in Educational Administration and Leadership with a concentration in Adult and Higher Ed. I have over 13 years of experience in adult education and 20 years of educational experience.

My favorite part of being a Freshman Advisor is helping students navigate their new life routine as a college freshman by offering support with in-person office visits or by email to help students meet their goals. I always remind students of my favorite BB King quote – “Education is one thing no one can ever take away from you.”  I believe that supporting students is vital to a student's success.

In my spare time, I raise registered American Brahman cattle, and I enjoy all the "country girl" things like hunting, fishing, growing a garden and cooking.
