Severe Behavioral Problems

The McNeese Autism Program offers assessments and intervention for children with severe behavioral problems. These services may help children and their families more readily navigate the daily challenges of home, school and community living. Treatment plans are individualized and can be implemented in various settings (i.e., private homes, schools, community based programs).

Counseling Services

MAP offers individual counseling (children and adults), family counseling and couples counseling (adults) for persons with High-Functioning Autism or a similar diagnosis, as well as individual counseling (children and adults), family counseling and couples counseling (adults) for persons with family members with Autism Spectrum Disorder or a similar diagnosis.

Common issues that co-occur with Autism Spectrum Disorder include:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Poor coping skills
  • Poor stress management
  • Issues regarding transitions into different life changes (marriage, divorce, death, school, career, etc.)

Common issues experienced by family members:

  • Feelings of helplessness
  • Feelings of hopelessness
  • Time management issues
  • Marriage/relationship concerns
  • Anger/resentment
  • Grief
  • Stress due to:
    • Diagnosis
    • Finances
    • Concerns for neurotypical children (siblings)
  • Concerns for future of loved one(s) with Autism Spectrum Disorder

Consultation and Training

The McNeese Autism Program offers consultation to schools, community organizations, churches, child development centers, recreation districts and other entities that serve children with autism and other disabilities.
