Dr. Daryl V. Burckel, C.P.A., C.V.A.

Dr. Daryl Burckel earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1980 and a master’s degree in business administration in 1982 from McNeese State University. He earned his doctorate in accounting from Mississippi State University in 1986.

He attended McNeese on a football scholarship where he was starting middle linebacker for the Cowboys on two Southland Conference championship teams that played in the Independence Bowl. In 1980, he was named the all-Southland Conference Defensive Most Valuable Player and received the Spirit of Independence Award following the bowl game. He was awarded one of four national NCAA-Postgraduate Academic Scholarships and he is a member of the McNeese Hall of Fame.

He held faculty positions at McNeese State University, the University of New Orleans and Mississippi State University before rejoining the McNeese faculty in 1992. As a full-time faculty member, he earned the rank of professor of accounting and served as head of the McNeese Department of Accounting, Finance, and Economics. For many years, he held the Arthur Hollins III Endowed Professorship in Accounting. He continued to teach accounting classes during his seven-year tenure as McNeese President.

Dr. Burckel is also a certified public accountant and a certified valuation analyst. His areas of expertise include financial analysis, business valuation of closely held business interests, and taxation. He has performed extensive consulting work for local and state governmental agencies, small businesses, and companies.

He has served as president and director of the Lake Charles Harbor and Terminal District Board, chairman of the board of directors for CHRISTUS St. Patrick Hospital, and chairman of the Southland Conference President’s Group. He also served on the board of directors for the Louisiana Housing Corporation, the Louisiana Land Trust, and Council for a Better Louisiana. He currently serves on the board of directors for JD Bank.

Dr. Burckel earned the rank of captain in the U.S. Army Reserves and is a veteran of Desert Storm.
