McNeese Rodeo Team Gearing Up for Nationals

The McNeese State University men’s rodeo team continues its run to the College National Finals Rodeo by leading the Southern Region by 300 points.
The men’s team placed second at the Hill College Rodeo in Hillsboro, Texas, but earned enough points to extend their lead in the region. The women’s team finished fourth but gained on the no. 1 team to be a close second in the region.
For the men, Shea Fournier, of Raceland, finished in first place in saddle bronc riding with an 81-point ride. He finished second in bull riding with a score of 70 and won the Men’s All-Around title. In bareback Riding, Kade Sonnier, Carencro, finished second with a 76-point ride, and Monty Fontenot of Ville Platte finished seventh with a 69-point ride.
For the women’s team, in goat tying Kamryn Duncan, of Denham Springs, finished fourth with a time of 7.0, Kathryn Moss, of Moss Bluff, finished seventh with a time of 7.3 and Kaylee Cormier, Iowa, rounded out the top 10 with a time of 7.5.
“Our last regular season rodeo is at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas, on April 21 and 22,” said Coach Justin Browning. “Then we’ll go to the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming, in June.”
