McNeese Student Wins Collegiate of the Year
Deacon Richard, a McNeese State University student from Eunice, was named Collegiate of the Year by Delta Sigma Pi for the Gulf South Region.
Delta Sigma Pi is a professional business fraternity for men and women focusing on professional skills, leadership, ethics and service.
Richard is a secondary business education major at McNeese and the vice president of pledge education of Delta Sigma Pi.
“I have always known that I wanted to be a teacher, but after taking accounting in high school, I decided that I wanted to teach business classes,” Richard said.
Following graduation, Richard plans to teach business courses at the high school level. He says McNeese’s College of Business and Burton College of Education have prepared him to be an excellent teacher. He recommends McNeese because of the small class sizes.
“The professors know you by name, rather than just a number,” he said. “This makes it very easy to approach them if you have questions or are struggling with anything.”
Richard also recommends that business majors join Delta Sigma Pi. “There are over 300,000 members in the United States so there are always connections to be made that can help you reach your life goals,” he said.
“Being part of this fraternity has allowed me to step outside of my comfort zone and travel across the nation, which is something that I have not been able to do before joining,” Richard added.
