Nutritional Sciences Students Offer Community Presentations

Graduate students in McNeese State University’s nutritional sciences program are available to give presentations to children and young adults in the Lake Area community on a variety of topics related to nutrition.
“Our goal is to serve Calcasieu Parish schools, churches and other organizations by giving young audiences the opportunity to ask questions about nutrition and learn more about healthy eating,” says Elizabeth Moore, director of McNeese’s didactic program in nutrition and dietetics. “It also gives our students hands-on experience in working with the public and applying their knowledge outside of the classroom.”
Topics for presentations include nutrition 101, portion control, incorporating healthy eating into everyday life, reading nutrition labels, healthy weight loss, heart healthy diets, sports nutrition, macronutrient (carbohydrates, protein and fats) breakdown and the role of a registered dietitian. Presentations are between 30-45 minutes and include PowerPoint slides or visual demonstrations such as portion control food models or plate set ups.
To request a presentation, contact Moore at emoore1@mcneese.edu. Include in the email name and contact information, presentation location, desired topic, intended audience and number of attendees.
