McNeese Offers New Services in Student Health

McNeese State University’s Student Health Services now offers acute medical care to students under the direction of Brooke Kennedy, family nurse practitioner and executive director of health and wellness.
“Services in the clinic are provided at no cost for McNeese students,” explained Kennedy. “Students, and their parents, can rest assured that they will not be charged for services in the clinic as in the past.”
“We have invested an increased amount of funding into health services to ensure we can provide students with a quality campus healthcare experience and access to programs that foster prevention and awareness,” explained Dr. Kedrick Nicholas, McNeese senior vice president.
Students will receive care for a wide range of acute medical conditions from rashes and minor lacerations to testing for flu, COVID, strep and sexually transmitted infections.
“If students require more in-depth testing, or a referral to a specialist, they might have to use their insurance for that service. However, we try to refer students to providers or facilities that are either discounted or free of charge,” she said.
Students in need of care can go to the Student Health Services building on the corner of Ryan Street and Sale Road. Walk-ins are welcome or students can make an appointment by clicking the make an appointment button on the webpage www.mcneese.edu/health-services/.
Kennedy will also be promoting health and wellness on campus by building partnerships with the McNeese Counseling Center, Office of Accessibility Services and Recreation and Wellness.
“The integrative approach will provide students with the resources and support they might need during their experience at McNeese,” she said.
“We are proud to serve the students of McNeese by providing them with quality healthcare right here on campus,” added Kennedy.
