McNeese Assistant Professor Selected for Music Festival
McNeese State University alumnus and assistant professor Dr. Jeremi Edwards is making his international musical debut as a selected composer taking part in the Alba International Music Festival in Italy this summer.
The Alba International Music Festival held in Alba, Italy, celebrates music and brings together renowned artists, orchestras and chamber ensembles. The festival creates a magical experience by combining music and beauty while offering a platform for artists from around the world.
Edwards was selected as one of 12 composers to participate in the Alba International Music Festival Composition Program which will take place from May 25 until June 3.
The program allows selected composers to premiere a new piece of music at the festival. They earn special access to workshops, master classes, lessons and lectures along with VIP access to festival concerts and events with the composers in residency.
Being selected for this program holds great significance for Edwards as a composer.
“The festival is a platform to share my music with a diverse, appreciative audience and an opportunity to contribute to the rich tapestry of the global music community,” Edwards explained.
Edwards earned his bachelor’s degree in music education from McNeese. He also earned a master’s degree in music in theory and composition at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and a doctorate in music composition from Louisiana State University.
Edwards is now back at McNeese as assistant professor of music theory and music composition in the W.A. and Dorothy Hanna Department of Performing Arts. He designed his music curriculum to foster creativity and critical thinking in his students.
“I aim to pass on my extensive knowledge and expertise to shape the next generation of aspiring musicians and composers at McNeese.”
