McNeese Arts Briefs

Kenneth Baskin, associate professor of art at McNeese, has had one of his ceramic pieces – Gear and Sprocket – featured in the October issue of Ceramics Monthly. This piece was selected to publicize his solo exhibit currently on display at McGuireWoods Gallery in the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, Va.

A native of Detroit, Baskin’s industrial, stoneware sculptures explore the relationship between humans and machines through his Crucible Series. The investigative properties of this series are focused upon the mechanical objects or artifacts derived from the advent of the industrial revolution.

Bill Rose, associate professor of music at McNeese, has had an organ composition, “On Christmas – SUSSEX CAROL,” accepted for publication by Wayne Leupold Editions in the November/December edition of the Organist’s Companion.

Also, a new work – the Evangeline Orchestral Suite for full orchestra transcribed and arranged by Rose – premiered this fall by the Lake Charles Symphony. The piece was drawn from songs and dances of the opera, “Evangeline,” written in 1995 by late composer Keith Gates and a McNeese colleague.
