History Endowed Scholarship Honors McNeese President Robert Hebert
The family of the late McNeese State University President Dr. Robert D. Hebert has given $60,000 to the McNeese Foundation to establish an endowed history scholarship in his memory.
The Dr. Robert D. Hebert Endowed History Scholarship has been created by his wife, Lilly Ann Hebert, and their four sons – Drs. Gerry, Greg, Edward and Chris Hebert – in the hope of continuing two of President’s Hebert’s great passions – teaching history and helping students.
Dr. Hebert was named McNeese’s fifth president in 1987. He joined the faculty in 1969 as an associate professor of history, with specializations in modern European history and international relations. He retired in June 2010 after serving 41 years at McNeese, including 23 years as president.
McNeese was transformed under President Hebert’s distinguished leadership through enhanced facilities, academics, research, athletics and community partnerships. He passed away in May 2016.
The family’s goal is to fully fund the endowed scholarship at $100,000, according to Richard Reid, vice president for university advancement and executive vice president of the foundation.
Donations can be made to the foundation by going online at www.mcneesefoundation.org/give or calling 337-475-5588.
