Black Male Initiative Supporting McNeese Students

Black students at McNeese State University are building strong bonds and supporting each other in the Black Male Initiative (BMI).
The BMI is an organization focused on the growth and success of the black male community and strives to be a place for Black males to prosper, network and encourage each other.
McNeese accounting senior Glenn Anderson is the president of the BMI. He recognizes the supportive space it provides to Black students.
“The BMI gives us the opportunity to help not only fellow students, but also the Black male community as well,” Anderson explained.
The BMI participates in networking events and hosts its own events for students. In honor of Black History Month, BMI is hosting a Black History Trivia Night on campus.
The BMI’s united community has supported Anderson as a college student. He is also inspired by two successful black men at McNeese, Dr. Kedrick Nicholas, dean of student affairs, and Dr. Davaron Edwards, assistant band director and instructor of music. Both are advisers to BMI.
“The BMI and these two successful men motivate me to strive for success in my college education,” Anderson said.
The most valuable benefits of being in the BMI for Anderson are the relationships he has built and the opportunities available to him.
“The BMI is a gateway for Black males to come together to grow, network and succeed,” Anderson said.
The McNeese BMI meets every other Thursday at 6 p.m. Students interested in joining can email msu-ganderson2@mcneese.edu.
