Lauren LeBato, a 2014 political science graduate and a 2017 Master of Arts in Teaching graduate, has been awarded a national 2020 James Madison Fellowship.

Only 49 fellowships were awarded by the James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation in Alexandria, Va. The Foundation is named after the fourth U.S. president and “Father of the Constitution and Bill of Rights.”

The $24,000 fellowship – which recognizes distinguished American history, American government and civics teachers in secondary schools – will fund Lauren’s plans to pursue a graduate degree in American history and government.

Currently, Lauren teaches AP government and politics classes at Barbe High School and Lake Charles Boston Academy. She also serves on the National Constitution Center’s Teacher Advisory Board.
