Nursing Seniors Conduct Mock Trial on Ethics

Senior nursing students conducted a mock trial for their final exam in their Ethical and Legal Nursing Practice course, where they learn about the legal implications of professional nursing practice.
The trial revolved around a nurse facing a negligence charge. The exercise was designed to walk students through the process of what can happen if a patient complaint arises including court hearings and disciplinary actions from a governing body and a place of employment.
Students participated as the judge, jury members, legal defense and prosecution teams, witnesses, a state nursing board and a disciplinary board of a hospital.
