McNeese to Host Band Championship

McNeese State University will host the 2019 Lake Charles Toyota Gulf Coast Marching Band Championship from 1 – 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at Cowboy Stadium.
30 high school bands from Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas will perform before a panel of music educators from Alabama, Maryland, Louisiana and Texas. Each team will receive written and recorded comments, a festival rating and overall top-5 competitive rankings. The evening will conclude with a performance by the Pride of McNeese Marching Band, followed by an awards ceremony.
Gates will open at 12:30 p.m.Admission is $12 for adultsand $5 for children under 12. All proceeds from the event support McNeese Bands.
“It’s great to give so many bands from the local area and surrounding states the opportunity to show off their hard work,” says director of bands Dr. Jay Sconyers. “It also gives students the chance to see what McNeese has to offer and why the university is first choice for so many.”

Barbe High School, Lake Charles; Pickering High School, Leesville; South Beauregard High School, Longville; Merryville High School, Merryville; Morgan City High School, Morgan City; Sam Houston High School, Moss Bluff; Sulphur High School, Sulphur; Tioga High School, Tioga; Westlake High School, Westlake; Grenada High School, Grenada, Miss.; Moss Point High School, Moss Point, Miss.; Morton Ranch High School, Katy, Texas; Ross Sterling High School, Baytown, Texas; West Brook High School, Beaumont, Texas; C.E. King High School, Houston, Texas; Lumberton High School, Lumberton, Texas; Pasadena Memorial High School, Pasadena, Texas; Sam Rayburn High School, Pasadena, Texas; and South Houston High School, South Houston, Texas.
