Your Safety Matters

Persons who have been involved in incidents of sexual assault, domestic violence, stalking, or harassment can seek out confidential help from the Counseling Center. Appointments can be made by calling 337-475-5136. Please let the front desk staff know that your situation is urgent, and we will arrange for a counselor to meet with you as soon as possible.

McNeese is committed to protecting the rights of victims of sexual assault, stalking, intimate partner violence, and other sexual violence, regardless of whether a victim decides to pursue an investigation.

There are multiple ways to report, which can be pursued separately or simultaneously, and to prioritize the victim’s privacy and needs when seeking accommodations, health services, and legal action.

I want to make a report, and I want to pursue legal action

You may report to McNeese faculty and staff. Many staff members on campus are considered mandated reporters (CSA’s) under CLERY Act standards, and therefore are required to report any instances of sexual assault, stalking, intimate partner violence, or other sexual violence to University Police and the Title IX Coordinator.
You can make a report to the Title IX Coordinator on campus. The Title IX Coordinator will conduct an investigation regardless of whether the incident is reported to the police.
You may choose to report the incident to the police. University Police can be contacted at 337-475-5711.
If the offense was committed by another student, you may choose to pursue action through the campus judicial system. The Office of Student Services is available to advise students of their rights under the Code of Student Conduct.

I want to make a report, but I’m not sure if I want to pursue legal action

Many staff members on campus are considered mandated reporters (CSA’s)Sexual Assault Confidential Resources under CLERY Act standards, and therefore are required to report any instances of sexual assault, stalking, intimate partner violence, or other sexual violence to University Police and the Title IX Coordinator. If you’re not sure you want to pursue legal options, you may:

Make a report to the Title IX Coordinator on campus. The Title IX Coordinator will conduct an investigation regardless of whether or not the incident is reported to police.
You may make a report through a confidential advisor, who is not obligated to report crimes to the institution or law enforcement in a way that identifies an alleged victim or an accused individual, unless otherwise required to do so by law.
You may seek assistance through the on-campus Counseling Center. Incidents reported to the Counseling Center will remain completely confidential. Mental health counselors on campus are considered exempt from mandatory reporting under CLERY standards.
If you are uncomfortable speaking with a person, you can report anonymously using two reporting options:

Please note that all resources are available to all victims of sexual assault, stalking, rape, or other intimate partner violence.
