McNeese Students Put AI to Good Use

McNeese State University computer science students are working on an artificial intelligence resume generator.
Oluwatobiloba Onimole and David Majekodunmi are creating a web application called ResumAI that will modify a person’s resume to better match a job description.
“I’ve always been fascinated by the intersection of AI and practical, everyday tools,” explained Onimole, a senior from Nigeria. “As someone who’s actively been applying for internships and jobs, I’ve seen firsthand how hard it can be to tailor a resume for every opportunity. I wanted to create a tool that not only streamlines that process but also empowers users to present themselves more effectively.”
The project started as an idea for a class final project, but it quickly evolved into something they wanted to explore further. After discussion and planning, Onimole and Majekodunmi, also from Nigeria, began developing it as a full-fledged web application.
Users can upload their existing resume and input a job description, which will prompt the program to generate a customized, professional resume using natural language processing and AI. The goal is to simplify the resume creation process and help users stand out in competitive job markets.
In the future, Onimole hopes to continue working on impactful projects at the intersection of software engineering and AI. He wants to pursue opportunities that will allow him to grow as an engineer and eventually build tools that help people.
Onimole says that McNeese offers a great combination of academics, personalized attention from faculty and hands-on experience.
He encourages all students to find opportunities whether in research or working on a new idea.
“Start with what you’re genuinely curious about,” he said. “Don’t wait for the perfect opportunity to come to you, create your own if you must. Talk to professors, collaborate with classmates and treat every project as a potential steppingstone.”
