McNeese Offers EASE Program for Local Seniors

McNeese State University offers adults aged 50 or older a simplified admission and registration process called Emphasis on Special Entry, or EASE. The program is for those who wish to enroll part-time in undergraduate classes for personal growth.
Additionally, Louisiana residents aged 60 and older can take one course at a reduced rate of $63.50 for one three-hour course per semester.
Dan Plummer, of Lake Charles, has been taking photography and art classes over the course of five years.
“I retired in 2016 and wanted to spend more time on photography. I’ve loved taking pictures for a long time but just didn’t find time to devote to it. So I thought I’d take classes at McNeese, in a way picking up where I’d left off 40 years earlier in college,” he said.
Plummer took photography, printmaking, drawing and graphic design classes.
Recently, one of his photographs was selected to be in the National Works on Paper Exhibit at McNeese.
“The photograph is one of my wife, Sherri, taken in front of our little travel trailer set up at a lovely campsite at Hanna Park in Jacksonville, Florida, last winter,” he said. “For me, the picture captures the natural beauty of this coastal forest that is much like that of habitats we enjoy in Louisiana.”
Plummer recommends the EASE program to all retirees. He says it’s a great way to learn some new things and make new friendships.
