McNeese Education Programs Earn Reaccreditation

All teacher education programs in the McNeese State University Burton College of Education have earned reaccreditation for another seven years from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), the sole nationally recognized accrediting body for education preparation.
In an announcement, CAEP says that McNeese’s teacher preparation programs at all levels meet the “rigorous, nationally recognized standards that were developed to ensure excellence in educator preparation programs.”
“Reaccreditation recognizes the hard work, dedication and commitment of our faculty and staff in the Burton College of Education and I wish to congratulate them for this outstanding achievement,” said McNeese Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and Enrollment Management Dr. Mitchell Adrian. “These high standards ensure that our teacher candidates are receiving the quality education that prepares them to succeed in the classroom after they graduate.”
CAEP,formerly known as the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), is the foremost accrediting agency for assessing the quality of teacher preparation programs, using a performance-based system of evaluation. The accrediting agency was established in 2013 following a consolidation of NCATE and the Teacher Education Accreditation Council.
The Burton College of Education – accredited since 1965 – offers bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in education, an education specialist degree, alternative teacher certification and post-baccalaureate and graduate certificates.
