McNeese Assistant Professor and Students Honored by LSCLS

The Louisiana Society of Clinical Laboratory Science (LSCLS) recently honored McNeese State University assistant professor, Whitnee Brame, as Educator of the Year and two McNeese students received top awards for their research papers.
Brame teaches medical laboratory science in the College of Nursing and Health Professions. The award recognizes outstanding professional achievement and demonstrated dedication to the highest professional ideals.
“I’m truly honored to receive this award from LSCLS,” said Brame. “To be recognized by my peers for doing what I love—teaching and supporting the future of this vital profession—is incredibly meaningful. This award inspires me to continue striving for excellence in education and advocacy for the laboratory sciences.”

McNeese students, Miya Breaux and Kolby Mitchell submitted research papers to LSCLS and earned top awards in their categories.
Breaux, a senior from Lake Arthur, wrote a paper about the “Importance of Laboratory With Diverticulitis.” She explained that although the laboratory does not directly diagnose diverticulitis it still plays a significant role. Different test results from other departments, in conjunction with the laboratory, can help diagnose patients.
“Receiving this award for my research paper is a significant accomplishment because it recognizes the originality, rigor and impact of my work,” she said. “It demonstrates my ability to conduct thorough research, analyze data critically and contribute valuable insights to a specific field.”
Mitchell’s paper, “Differential Diagnosis of Iron-Deficiency Anemia, Thalassemia and Hemochromatosis,” explained differential diagnosis of a patient presenting with red blood cell abnormalities and liver complications.
“Being recognized by LSCLS as someone with a promising future in clinical laboratory science is a tremendous honor. It is rewarding to have my hard work and dedication acknowledged in such a meaningful way,” said Mitchell, a senior from Sulphur.
