McNeese Announces Largest Increase in Enrollment in 22 Years

McNeese State University is celebrating the largest enrollment increase in 22 years. Fall 2025 enrollment rose by 5% to 6,556 students, up from 6,243 in 2024, turning around years of decline.
“Twenty-two years,” exclaimed Dr. Wade Rousse, president of McNeese State University. “We know that coming to McNeese can change a life and it’s thrilling to see more students and families recognizing that.”
The university also welcomed its largest first-time freshman class in many years, with a 13.3% increase over last year.
“Even our dorms are full for the first time in over two decades,” Rousse said. “You can feel the energy and excitement across campus.”
Faculty and staff played a key role in showcasing McNeese’s vibrant campus community, diverse programs and strong academic reputation. A winning culture, bolstered by the men’s basketball team’s back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances, also contributed to the momentum.
McNeese continues to earn state and national recognition for faculty and student achievements, including exceptional licensure exam pass rates, admission to medical and professional schools and outstanding career return on investment.
Looking ahead, the university will open its new student union at the end of 2025. The modern facility will feature study and meeting areas, a ballroom for events and a new cafeteria.
“Our goal is to make McNeese the premier regional university in Louisiana and Southeast Texas, and we are well on our way,” Rousse said.
