McNeese Schedules Chamber Singers Concert

The McNeese State University W.A. and Dorothy Hanna Department of Performing Arts will present the McNeese Chamber Singers in a free concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 8, in the Shearman Fine Arts Tritico Theatre. The Chamber Singers are under the direction of Darryl Jones, director of choral activities, and accompanied by Ulysses Loken on piano.
The group will perform “Requiem” by John Rutter. This work combines portions of the traditional Latin Mass of the Dead with English texts taken from “Psalm 130” and “Psalm 23.” Soloists for the work are sopranos Kaitlin Colby for the “Pie Jesu” and Lindsey Bower for the “Lux aeterna,” with oboist Beverly Jones assisting on “Psalm 23.”
The second half of the program will include several of the Old American Folk Songs set by Aaron Copland and arranged for chorus by Irving Fine, including “Zion’s Walls,” “At the River,” “I Bought Me a Cat,” “Long Time Ago” and “Ching-A-Ring Chaw.”
