A Night at the Opera: Minette Ferrand, Mixed-Race Actress and Singing Superstar of 1780s Haiti

The next Women and Gender Studies event is a lecture on Tuesday 8 October by Dr. Philippe Girard, who will present “A Night at the Opera: Minette Ferrand, Mixed-Race Actress and Singing Superstar of 1780s Haiti.” Girard is a professor of Caribbean history at McNeese and a specialist of the Haitian Revolution. He will speak on his current biographical project, which retraces the life of Minette Ferrand, the star of the operatic stage in Haiti before moving to New Orleans during the Haitian Revolution. The presentation and a light luncheon will be Tuesday, Nov. 8 from 12-30-1:30 p.m. in the McNeese Room of Frazar Memorial Library.
