McNeese Rodeo Team in Good Standing
The McNeese State University rodeo team is in good standing with two more rodeos this season.
Currently, the men’s team is in first place in the Southern Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association and the women’s team is in fourth place. Isaac Richard, Eunice, is in the top spot in saddle bronc riding, and Jude Leonards, Bell City, is first in steer wrestling.
At the Texas A&M rodeo the men’s team brought home first place and the women earned sixth place.
Connor Griffith, Brandford, Tennessee, placed fourth in the men’s all around. Richard placed first in saddle bronc riding, Izaah Bartles, New Underwood, South Dakota, placed fifth and Griffith and Shea Fournier, Raceland, split seventh place.
Kash Martin, Lufkin, Texas, placed second in bareback riding, while Devin Byram, Welsh, placed fourth, Griffith placed sixth and Monty Fontenot, Ville Platte, placed seventh.
In steer wrestling Leonards placed first and Bradley Hesnor, Ville Platte, placed second.
Two members of the women’s team placed in goat tying. Kamryn Duncan, Denham Springs, placed fifth and Alyssa Gary, LeBleu Settlement, placed seventh.
At the Trinity Valley Community College rodeo, the women’s team placed third. Morgan Sparks, Natchitoches, placed first in breakaway roping, while Camryn Richard, Moss Bluff, placed third. Duncan placed first in goat tying and Kaylee Cormier, Iowa, placed sixth.
The men’s team placed seventh. Jace Nixon, Lake Charles, placed third in the saddle bronc riding. Caleb Miller, Welsh, placed fifth and Bartels placed sixth in the same event. In the bareback riding Martin placed fifth, Griffith placed sixth and Fontenot placed seventh.
The rodeo team will travel to Wharton, Texas, and Hillsboro, Texas, for the final two rodeos of the season with its eyes on qualifying for the College National Finals Rodeo this summer.
