The McNeese State University rodeo team is hosting the Celebrity Boxing Challenge on Saturday, April 20, at 7 p.m. in the Burton Coliseum.

The main event will be Aaron Davis vs. Grant Navarre, plus 16 other boxing matches. Tickets are available through ticketmaster.com, or table can be purchased by calling 337-476-4037. All proceeds benefit the McNeese Rodeo Scholarships.

“We host this boxing match as a fundraiser because it’s unique,” exclaimed McNeese rodeo coach, Justin Browning. “Rodeo and boxing were the first two sports at McNeese, and we wanted to bring that back.”

Currently there are 35 rodeo student-athletes, but not all of them have a scholarship. The graduation rate for the team is 95%, according to Browning.

“If we can help make boxing fans rodeo fans, and rodeo fans boxing fans, that would be great for both sports,” Browning said.
