McNeese State University will host author Rae Cline for a fiction reading on Friday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. in the Stokes Auditorium, located in Hardtner Hall. This event is sponsored by the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) program in creative writing and a Juliet Hardtner Endowed Professorship. This reading is free to the public.
Founded in 1981, McNeese’s MFA degree program is the oldest MFA program in Louisiana and one of the oldest in the Southeast.
Cline is the author of a short story collection, The Indefinite State of Imaginary Morals. She also has a debut novel scheduled for publication in spring 2026.
Cline’s fiction, creative nonfiction and poetry have appeared in The Paris Review, The Missouri Review, McSweeney’s DIAGRAM, North American Review, Gargoyle and more.
Her work has won prizes, scholarships and fellowships from Johns Hopkins, American University, Aspen Writers Foundation and North American Review. She earned a Master of Arts in writing at Hopkins and received her MFA in fiction and creative nonfiction from American University.
