McNeese Theatre Presents “Buried Child”
McNeese State University’s W.A. and Dorothy Hanna Department of Performing Arts presents the McNeese Theatre production of the play “Buried Child” at 7 p.m. Oct. 29-31 and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Nov. 1 in Tritico Theatre.
“Buried Child” by Sam Shepard won the 1979 Pulitzer Prize for drama. The play is set in a squalid farm home with a family filled with suppressed violence and deep-seated unhappiness. Characters include an alcoholic grandfather, a sanctimonious grandmother, sons Tilden and Bradley. Newcomer Vince, a grandson no one remembers, and his girlfriend, Shelly, join the family as they struggle with a dark secret.
This play is being directed by Joshua Stenvick, McNeese assistant professor of theatre.
General admission is $20 and free for students with their student ID. Tickets are available at the door or on the website www.mcneese.edu/performingarts/boxoffice/.
The McNeese Theatre program gives students from all areas of study an opportunity to express their creativity and become storytellers. The students build close friendships with cast, crew and professors that feel like a second home, according to Stenvick.
