McNeese faculty recital set

The McNeese State University W.A. and Dorothy Hanna Department of Performing Arts will present a free recital by faculty members Sarah Cullen, violin, Rod Lauderdale, French horn, and Dr. Ulysses Loken, piano, at 7 p.m. Monday, April 1, in Tritico Theatre.
The program includes “Horn Trio” by Johannes Brahms, “Prelude From Partita No. 3” by Johannes Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Rage Over a Lost Penny” and Vitzhak Graziani’s “Variations on Haydn’s Theme.”

Cullen, an adjunct faculty member, holds degrees in violin performance from the University of Iowa and DePaul University. She has performed with orchestras in Chicago and Houston, was a longtime member of the Quad City Symphony Orchestra in Davenport, Iowa, and currently plays with the Lake Charles Symphony.

Lauderdale is in his 28th year as professor of French horn at McNeese. He holds a bachelor’s degree in music from California State University and a master’s degree in conducting from Southern Methodist University. He has played principal horn with the Pensacola Opera and the Baton Rouge, Shreveport, Mobile (Ala.) and Lake Charles symphonies. Currently, he is the principal horn for the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra and the Rapides Symphony and second horn with the Symphony of South-East Texas. He is a member of the International Horn Society.

Loken, an instructor and collaborative pianist, received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music from San Francisco State University and his Doctorate of Musical Arts in collaborative piano from the University of Oregon. He has performed across northern California and the Pacific Northwest, collaborating with principal members of the Oregon Symphony, the San Francisco Opera Orchestra and the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.
