The Smart Choice

This process does not apply to international students who utilize wire transfer or Flywire to pay tuition/fees. Please contact msucashiers@mcneese.edu for other arrangements if using wire transfer/Flywire

International students who pay with credit card or U.S. bank account are able to set up Nelnet payment plans.

Prior term balances will not be included in Payment Plan totals; only current term charges are included in the calculation of the divided payments. Any outstanding prior term balances must be paid separately.

If you make online payments or use the installment plan, please read the following carefully.

Frequently Asked Questions

Rather than paying the entirety of your tuition and fees at the beginning of the semester, a payment plan allows you to spread the out-of-pocket cost for tuition and other fees over the course of a few months. For many students, this type of plan makes budgeting and paying for college easier. Keep in mind that enrolling in a payment plan does not remove your financial responsibility—you still owe the full amount even if you stop attending classes.

Nelnet is the company that McNeese uses to process online payments and installment plan contracts. It provides a secure, convenient way for students to make payments and set up or manage their payment plans.

If you wish to permit a third party to make payments on your behalf, you'll need to set them up as an authorized payer.

If you decide to resign or withdraw from the University, you’re still responsible for paying any fees or charges that you owe under this agreement.

Your down payment will be ¼ of your account balance for fall and spring and ½ for summer. In addition to the down payment, you must also pay a nonrefundable enrollment fee when you set up the plan:
•             $50.00 for Fall/Spring plans
•             $40.00 for Summer plans
Both the down payment and the enrollment fee are due at the time you create the payment plan, so be sure you’re prepared to make the payment before setting it up.

Installment plan down payments are due by the published fee payment deadline in the schedule https://www.mcneese.edu/schedule/ and are processed when the installment plan is set up. The remaining payment deadlines will be set when you initiate your payment plan but typically follow the following dates:
  • Spring: February 15, March 15, April 15
  • Summer: July 1
  • Fall: September 15, October 15, November 15
All payments will be auto-drafted on the due dates via the method selected at the time the plan is initiated. Nelnet will send notifications prior to initiating payments.

Automated payments eliminate the need to remember to make manual payments and avoids late fees and holds for missed/late payments.

Any changes in tuition/fees due to enrollment changes (adding/dropping classes) will be automatically adjusted and reflected on the payment plan amounts due within 24 hours of the change.

No, financial aid awards cannot be used as the initial/down payment.

If there is aid awarded that will pay a portion of the total charges, the partial aid will be applied toward the account balance and the plan will be set up on the remaining balance due after aid.

Example: If the charges are $4,500 and your aid is $2,500 the remaining balance due is $2,000.
The payment plan payments would be as follows:

#1 due at time of plan setup $500 + $50 enrollment fee for Fall/Spring plans or $40 enrollment fee for Summer plans
#2 draft 2/15/23 $500
#3 draft 3/15/23 $500
#4 draft 4/15/23 $500

Yes, Bookstore PTA charges will be included in the payment plan. If you do not set up a Nelnet payment plan, Bookstore PTA charges will be due at the date determined by the Bookstore, usually to coincide with the final Payment Plan Date for the semester. Those dates are typically April 15 for spring, July 1 for summer and November 15 for fall.  Semester specific dates can be found in the schedule https://www.mcneese.edu/schedule/

Students can make payments, enter into payment plans and see their installment amounts immediately. These services is are available 24-hours a day and Nelnet offers customer support.

Ashley Bass

I am a McNeese graduate with a bachelor's degree in Family and Consumer Science and a concentration in Child and Family Studies. As a student, I competed on the rodeo team and served on the SGA board. I earned my master’s degree in 2022 from the University of South Dakota in Educational Administration and Leadership with a concentration in Adult and Higher Ed. I have over 13 years of experience in adult education and 20 years of educational experience.

My favorite part of being a Freshman Advisor is helping students navigate their new life routine as a college freshman by offering support with in-person office visits or by email to help students meet their goals. I always remind students of my favorite BB King quote – “Education is one thing no one can ever take away from you.”  I believe that supporting students is vital to a student's success.

In my spare time, I raise registered American Brahman cattle, and I enjoy all the "country girl" things like hunting, fishing, growing a garden and cooking.
