McNeese’s Accreditation Reaffirmed by SACSCOC

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) announced that accreditation for McNeese State University is reaffirmed for an additional 10 years following a comprehensive review of McNeese’s academic and administrative programs.
“Reaffirmation of accreditation is very important because it signifies that McNeese programs meet high standards as the result of a rigorous external review process that evaluates compliance against a common set of standards,” McNeese President Dr. Daryl Burckel said.
The SACSCOC accreditation standards review institutional integrity, effective governance, financial sustainability and appropriate student support services.
“This multi-year process begins with a thorough internal review, followed by an external team review of the university’s report and finally an on-campus visit by a group of evaluators from other SACSCOC institutions, ” said Burckel. “I wish to thank our faculty and staff for their work towards this outstanding achievement.”
The accreditation reaffirmation process also requires the university to submit a quality enhancement plan that makes a positive impact on student learning. McNeese’s QEP – “Navigate Your Future: Charting Success Through Enhanced Advising and Career Readiness” – focuses on improving the professional and career preparation skills of students as well as implementing new tools and processes that will increase the effectiveness of academic advising.
SACSCOC accreditation also determines an institution’s eligibility to receive federal funding for student financial aid and its ability to accept transfer academic credits from other colleges and universities.
McNeese has been accredited by SACSCOC since 1954. It is the major accrediting body for nearly 800 public and private universities and colleges in Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Latin America.
