McNeese Student Chapter Receives Merit Award from SHRM
The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) awarded a 2022-2023 Superior Merit Award designation to the McNeese State University’s SHRM student chapter for providing superior growth and development opportunities to its student members.
The SHRM Student Chapter Merit Award program encourages the development of more effective student chapters that provide outstanding activities and projects.
“During my time in McNeese SHRM student chapter, I was given the opportunity to network with a wide variety of local human resources professionals from our community,” explained Emilee Whitaker, 2022-2023 McNeese SHRM student chapter president. “This was an opportunity that I would never have had without this student chapter.”
During the 2022-2023 academic year the McNeese chapter was led by an Executive Council comprised of Whitaker, president; Serena Greenlee, vice president; Karin Shinn, co-treasurer; Malachi Carroll, co-treasurer; and Karisma Vidal, secretary. This amazing team of officers led the organization to its award-winning status for the fourth year in a row by providing professional development sessions for members, community service projects and recognition. Members also participate in paid internships and have the opportunity to sit for the SHRM-CP exam during their senior year.
“After graduating with my undergraduate degree, I began the pursuit of my MBA in the College of Business at McNeese,” Whitaker said. “A large part of my decision to stay at McNeese was because I could continue my membership in the McNeese SHRM Student Chapter.”
This year’s Executive Council is planning another award-winning year! They meet the first Wednesday of the month at 6 p.m. For more information on joining McNeese SHRM or attending meetings, please contact Dr. Kristin C. Scott at kscott@mcneese.edu.
