McNeese Engineering Students Place Second
A team of five McNeese State University civil engineering students competed in Denver, Colorado, at the 2024 National Precast Concrete Association (NPCA) Foundation Student Competition and received second place.
The team members included junior Kallie Broussard of Lake Arthur, junior Todd Cormier of Iowa, junior Brant Courville of Lake Charles, junior Matthew Hennigan of Westlake and senior Pavel Kraus of Czech Republic. The students are advised and supported by Dr. Dimitrios Dermisis, associate professor of civil engineering.
Students had to design structures to provide protection for seven large pipes that would be routed underneath a major industrial highway at a levee crossing.
Courville also presented a poster during the trade show related to the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute activities.
The student competition was part of The Precast Show, which is the largest precast-specific trade show in North America with nearly 5,000 participants. This is the second time that McNeese has participated in the competition.
