Dr. Angelique Ogea named Dean of Burton College of Education

Dr. Angelique M. Ogea, associate professor of education professions, has been named dean of the Burton College of Education at McNeese State University, according to Dr. Mitchell Adrian, provost and vice president for academic affairs and enrollment management at McNeese.

“It is with great enthusiasm that I accept the opportunity to serve as the interim dean for the Burton College of Education. As a devoted leader for our team of talented and dedicated professionals, I am committed to promoting the growth of our college and university while facilitating the progression of our programs to meet the demands of our region. I strongly believe that as educators it is our responsibility to make a positive impact on our students so that they in turn will make valuable contributions to society and the community they serve,” said Ogea.

Ogea received her doctorate in educational leadership from Lamar University, her Master of Education degree plus 30 hours in educational leadership from the University of New Orleans and both her Master of Education degree in early childhood education and her Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education at McNeese.

Ogea is assistant chair of the department of education professions. She has also served as the college’s assistant coordinator for the recent Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation process for all teacher education programs that recently earned reaccreditation and as co-assessment coordinator for the college. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in reading methods, classroom management and educational leadership.

Prior to coming to McNeese in 2015, Ogea had eight years of elementary teaching experience and four years of administration experience. She previously worked for the Louisiana Department of Education as a certification counselor and also taught at Walden University and Louisiana College.

Ogea is a member of several university committees and professional organizations, has published several articles and made numerous presentations. She is a Pinnacle Excellence Award winner as well as the recipient of the Hale Endowed Professorship in Education. She has also received more than $300,000 in grants funded by the Louisiana Department of Education.
