Black Alumni Chapter is Making a Difference
The McNeese State University Alumni Association’s Black Alumni Chapter is spearheading the development of a campus environment that supports the success of Black students, faculty and staff.
The Black Alumni Chapter is an organization dedicated to increasing Black alumni participation in University affairs and promoting personal growth and professional development of its members.
Alumna Kyandria Scott is the president.
Scott explained that the organization engages with current students by attending on-campus events and supporting campus organizations, including the Black Male Initiative and NAACP.
The chapter also holds annual fundraisers to support Black students at all levels.
“Our Trailblazer event raises scholarship money while honoring prestigious McNeese graduates who have made an impact on McNeese and our community,” Scott said. The organization also hosts the annual Jazz it Up scholarship fundraiser.
Since 2011, over $100,000 in endowed scholarships have been awarded by the chapter to high school seniors through the McNeese Foundation.
The chapter also supports the community by volunteering for community events and donating to civic causes.
By being involved on campus and aiding student organizations, the McNeese Black Alumni Chapter supports the recruitment, development and graduation of Black students.
