Visiting Lecturer of Foundations; Area of Foundations
Cynthia Howes-Baskin received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art from Northwest Missouri State University and her Master of Arts in Ceramics and Sculpture from the University of South Carolina. After teaching at the University of South Carolina, she relocated to Lake Charles, Louisiana, and began teaching at McNeese State University in 2005.
For more than 20 years, she has taught a wide range of courses in Foundations. In 2020, she developed and implemented a mentoring program in the Department of Visual Arts: ASPIRE: The Mentor Mentee Project. This collaborative peer-mentoring initiative pairs sophomore, junior, and senior art majors with students navigating their first or second semester in the program. The project enhances the student experience, encourages academic achievement, and fosters a supportive community in which mentors and mentees learn and grow together.
