Policy

To recognize educational achievements, full-time unclassified staff will receive a $500 base salary increase upon earning an initial master’s degree and a $2,000 base salary increase upon earning an initial doctoral degree. Employees will not receive a salary increase for subsequent master’s or doctoral degrees. The increase is not retroactive, unless otherwise specified, but becomes effective at the beginning of the fall or spring semester following that in which the credential was earned and the Office of Academic Affairs and Enrollment Management receives an official transcript. The increase will not be retroactive to dates prior to the initiation of this policy. All increases shall be accompanied by a memo to the appropriate vice president initiated by the employee’s supervisor following receipt of the new degree. This memo should describe how the degree will enhance the employee’s role at the University. Graduate degrees eligible for base salary adjustments must be awarded by domestic colleges or universities authorized to grant master’s and doctoral degrees under U.S. Department of Education (DOE)-recognized accreditation through the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Non-domestic institutions awarding master’s and doctoral degrees, or equivalent, must adhere to accreditation standards comparable to DOE and CHEA. The McNeese president or their designee reserves final authority in determining eligibility of graduate degrees for base salary adjustments. The official transcript must be submitted to the Office of Academic Affairs and Enrollment Management from the university awarding the degree. All salary increases must be approved by the governing board.
