Accepting Monetary or Non-Monetary Compensation or Gifts Policy

Authority: President
Date Enacted or Revised: Revised January 5, 2016; March 17, 2022; July 3, 2025

In accordance with the University of Louisiana System’s Policy and Procedures Memorandum M-9a, McNeese establishes this policy regarding the acceptance of monetary or non-monetary compensation or gifts.

To uphold the highest standards of integrity and avoid even the appearance of impropriety, University employees must not accept anything of value from individuals or entities currently engaged in, or seeking to establish, a financial relationship with the University.

This policy is intentionally more restrictive than existing state ethics laws and is designed to complement—not replace—those legal requirements. In any instance where this University policy may conflict with or appear to weaken official ethics rules or statutory obligations, the University will defer to the applicable ethics laws and regulations.

Any exception to this policy must be submitted in writing and receive prior approval from both the University president and the director of internal audit.
