I’m interested in this place. It was staggering to witness. Branches bent like ostriches, afraid to look. Sometimes, slivers of light would invade, indicating the buildings were wooden slats. She’s wearing a black trench coat she bought at a thrift store. Whore. Sometimes she liked wearing it, extra smiles, lingering glances; other times, she stared at it from across the room, afraid it would move on its own and possess her. Earlier that afternoon, she found honeysuckle off a path around the lily pad garden, and she peeled away the tissue to release the musky honey from its core. “That damn thing just fell.” After her husband died, at the age of fifty-five, she stayed on in their apartment, a spacious third-floor one-bedroom. He said doctors agree that healing takes time. Both sacrificed.

Mia Bonds is an undergraduate at McNeese University in the Bachelor of English program, with a concentration in creative writing. She is serving as an editorial assistant for McNeese’s Boudin and as the editor of McNeese’s The Arena. She is dedicated to honing her writing skills so that she can entertain audiences with unique and inspiring Christian fiction stories after she graduates.
Alexandria Knight is a student at McNeese State University where she is pursuing a BA in English with a concentration in creative writing. Outside of her studies, she can be found tending to her pet goldfish, Seymour, or playing the piano.
