March 2015:
In celebration of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day, Prof. Allison Gibbons, Associate Professor of Family and Child Studies at McNeese, will present a lecture entitled "Women's place in the world: Global perspectives on the journey from 1975 to 2015,” at 2:00 p.m., March 10, Kaufman Hall Room 205.
Dr. Gibbons, a native of Trinidad and Tobago, has a Ph.D. in Family Studies from Texas Woman’s University.  For many years she crisscrossed the globe while working for the United Nations and other International humanitarian agencies that sought to improve the lives of women and children.  Her talk will focus on the United Nations’ international conferences on women—1975 in Mexico City, 1980 in Copenhagen, 1985 in Nairobi, and 1995 in Beijing—which she attended.  She will discuss the aims of the conferences, their impact, and ongoing concerns for women’s rights around the world.
For more information, please contact Dr. Janet Allured, Professor of History and Director of Women’s Studies, jallured@mcneese.edu, or 337-884-4795.  Dr. Allured will give a brief description of McNeese’s Women’s Studies program before introducing Dr. Gibbons.
