Abbie Skinner
__________
Time flies and it crawls. Sometimes it stops and sometimes it simply slips away. If your year has been anything like mine, every month has begun with a perturbed, “How is it already April… August… October?” Time, ever present in our lives and in our stories, can be direct and up front, but more often moves inscrutably in the background. I chose “Field Notes” by Itto and Mekiya Outini as the winner of this year’s Skinner Prize for its representation of this frightening opacity of time. Sometimes we don’t even get the ticking clock as a warning.
It was the spookiest pleasure of my year to return to “Boo”din to read these pieces. My biggest thanks go out to Lynn Watson, Taryn White, Leah Joseph, Robbie Hess, Jade Turner, Maggie Brantley, and everyone who keeps the spirit of Boudin alive and well!
Happy Hauntings!
