Letter from the Editor

January, 2025, has been historic down here on the bayou. Not only does it mark Boudin’s one-year anniversary of becoming a monthly, we also had our first blizzard warning, ever! This elusive southern snow provided the perfect setting to compile Boudin’s Winter Extravaganza. And what an extravaganza it is! We were overwhelmed with amazing writing, and this issue–a double of sorts–is stuffed to the gills.
The McNeese extravaganza doesn’t show any signs of slowing; our spring is going to be a big one. Boudin is hosting its first ever chapbook contest, judged by Roxane Gay, the 2025 AWP Conference keynote speaker. Please consider submitting your flash fiction chapbook in our competition, and please come by and see us at the Boudin/McNeeseReview/MFA booth at AWP in Los Angeles!
We’re also gearing up for McNeese’s first MFA summer retreat. Five of our MFA students were selected by Michael Martone (fiction) and Shanti Weiland (poetry) to spend nine days on a farm set in the gorgeous hills of Alabama, writing their hearts out and conferencing with Martone and Weiland.
McNeese has become my home in the short eighteen months that I’ve been here; it’s an incredibly welcoming place with great opportunities. Join the extravaganza and come get your MFA with us! Encourage your writer friends to apply!
