July is the new June Edition, Editor’s Note
This was supposed to be a June edition, but there you go, July rolls in. June 30th, my dad’s birthday, this year, the second one after his death. So as I’ve been building this edition, I’ve been thinking a lot about how we weigh on each other. Literal human gravity. And how things that are gone pull on us more than when they are right there. As we are about to celebrate independence, maybe it is dependence that is more interesting. Here are five works that do many, many splendid things on many levels, but to me they all investigate the ways that most beautiful and brutal of gravities–human gravity–upends our lives.
On another note, I’m excited to announce that this fall the McNeese Review and Boudin will have separate faculty editors. The MFA graduate students will still be doing the heavy lifting and essentially running the show, but this change will allow each publication to get the focused attention it deserves, and for Boudin, particularly, it will lead to a more consistent submission and publication schedule.
So after my one year stint as editor for both venues, I say goodbye as I focus on directing the MFA program and the day-to-day business matters for these two publications.
Enjoy!
