Congratulations on becoming part of McNeese State University. Your next steps in becoming a student are to meet with your advisor and register for classes.

Who is my advisor?

Advisors are assigned based on the major that was selected on your application. If you wish to change your major, you may go to and select the video on How to Schedule an Appointment. This video will show you who your new advisor will be and guide you through the steps necessary to make an appointment with your new advisor.

When should I see my advisor?

Advising and registration for the summer/fall semester will take place in early April and by mid-October for spring. Check for registration information.

How can I make an appointment to see my advisor?

Please go to the McNeese web page at and then follow these instructions.
  1. Select Schedule an Appointment on the left side of the screen and follow the prompt. If you would like to review your degree program in our online catalog and need some assistance, please go to and select the Accessing the Catalog video
  2. Select Basic Studies under Select Department/College. All freshmen {with the exception of students pursuing an Associate of Science degree in Nursing (2 year program)} will go through Basic Studies for advising
  3. Select your advisor

Should I bring anything to my appointment?

Following are a list of items you may want to bring:
  1. College transcripts if you took any college level coursework during high school
  2. Copies of ACT/SAT scores if you have not yet had all official scores submitted to McNeese
  3. Advanced Placement scores

When will I attend Freshman Orientation?

You will receive Orientation information at your advising appointment.
