Sometimes it stops and sometimes it simply slips away. If your year has been anything like mine, every month has begun with a perturbed, &#8220;How is it already April&#8230; August&#8230; October?&#8221; Time, ever present in our lives and in our stories, can be direct and up front, but more often moves&nbsp;inscrutably in the background. I chose &#8220;Field Notes&#8221; by Itto and Mekiya Outini as the winner of this year&#8217;s Skinner Prize for its representation of this frightening opacity of time. Sometimes we don&#8217;t even get the ticking clock as a warning.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">It was the spookiest pleasure of my year to return to &#8220;Boo&#8221;din to read these pieces.
