June 30<sup>th<\/sup>, my dad\u2019s birthday, this year, the second one after his death. So as I\u2019ve been building this edition, I\u2019ve been thinking a lot about how we weigh on each other. Literal human gravity. And how things that are gone pull on us more than when they are right there. As we are about to celebrate independence, maybe it is dependence that is more interesting. Here are five works that do many, many splendid things on many levels, but to me they all investigate the ways that most beautiful and brutal of gravities&#8211;human gravity&#8211;upends our lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">On another note, I\u2019m excited to announce that this fall the <em>McNeese Review<\/em> and <em>Boudin<\/em> will have separate faculty editors.
