By moonlight,\nI can almost discern\nthe red spikes of cardinal\nflowers craning their necks\nalongside the river\u2019s\noffshoot, the bayou,\nwith its indecisive flow,\nmy own directional change\nand stagnation and muddied\nthoughts poured out before me\nin the starry pitch. Insects\nexercise their whirring, clicking\nvoices. I am flooded and ripe\nwith rot. This swamp needs\na new tree, and I have knees\nand full-bodied thirst.\n<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>__________<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Katherine Quevedo<\/strong> was born and raised just outside of Portland, Oregon, where she lives with her husband and two sons.
