High in the black<br>between a blink and the next, a bright<br>orange speck streaked<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">left-to-right on an earthward slant.<br>It burned out before it could reach<br>the treetops, before I could think<br>two words for it\u2014tiny torch,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">match struck and unlit<br>so quick, after so long coming<br>to this. I looked to my left<br>to see if you\u2019d witnessed the glowing<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">sign in the dark\u2014my flash of madness,<br>spark of a wish in your absence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">__________<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Jed Myers<\/strong> lives in Seattle.
